WORKS ON PAPER AND HARDBOARD

November 1 - 19

These works represent our interpretations on the issue of language and cultural survival.

I believe language and culture are inseparable- sacred and fundamental for the continuation of strong communities. Aroha, unity and understanding between peoples is vital in the directional movement towards a more balanced society.

Within our oceanic relationships of the Pacific we are able to experience an interactive diversity of vitality. Each culture is a wealth of knowledge, inspiration, strength, and dynamism which nourishes the person and the community at large. Nurturing culture and language is paramount to the health of our communities, relationships and understanding of one another. These works explore this reality through my own eyes, whakaaro, experience and perception as a person of mixed descent living in Aotearoa.

These works acknowledge the aroha of those people within our communities who continue to uphold, pass on and share the knowledge in the legacy of our ancestors.
