Imogen Tunnicliffe

Imogen completed her Masters degree at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001, where she majored in Printmaking. She experimented with most of the print techniques but is inexorably drawn to the complex and relatively little known process of dry point. More recently she has been combining dry point with layers of mono print, and sometimes collage.

Imogen’s extensive travels have informed her work considerably. A trip to Mexico in 1995 was a defining moment in her art when she was inspired by their uninhibited and unusual use of colour. A year in New York in 2002 was also significant where she joined a print studio in Manhattan to print a body of work for an exhibition in New Zealand. This experience proved to be a challenge but an important development for Imogen as an artist.

Exploring the interplay between the everyday and the exotic, reality and fantasy, Tunnicliffe's prints are nostalgic for another time.
